In Spark Minda, Ashok Minda Group, Community Development is the value driven concept since its inception. The six intervention areas, in which the Group operates, Care for Persons with Disability is one of it. The objective is to ensure sustainability to the lives of Persons with Disability through ensuring their mobility, Spark Minda, Ashok Minda Group has developed a Program called “Saksham”. It is supplementing to Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan), Ministry of Persons with Disabilities.Under Saksham Program, we:
This framework is basically designed for differently abled people to create an inclusive workplace, where their skill and talent are valued and respected.
Countrywide in different manufacturing locations 149 Person with disability are employed by the Group. The Group engages PWD’s with an affirmation of its commitment to sustainable business practice.
The various functions where PWD’s are employed are Assembly, Production, Paintshop, Administration, Wire joint taping, Store Department, Inspection etc. Frequent job rotation is also carried out to provide ease to them while working.
Spark Minda Foundation, as part of their continuous efforts aimed towards social upliftment, organized a 12 day Artificial Limb Fitment camp at Noida. This program supplements the Accessible India Campaign of Government of India.
The camp was being organized in association with Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklaang Sahatya Samiti (Jaipur Foot) started from 1st September to 12th September, 2016. The camp aimed to treat more than 300 Persons with Disability in 12 days. Observing the response of the community the number for fitment was increase to 1054.
The camp has provided end-to-end support in Limb fitment, Caliper fitment, providing Walkers, Elbow Crutches etc. all in same day and as per requirement.
The activity is part of ‘Saksham’ – a CSR program started by Spark Minda, Ashok Minda Group to help Persons within Disabilities (PWDs). Under Saksham, the Group aims to provide accessible and assistive technologies, impart skill training through OJT (On the job training), create inclusive workplace and ergonomics, train them for 5s and life skills, employ PWD’s (Persons with Disability). The Group has already successfully organized an Artificial Limb fitment camp at Indonesia, which benefitted 529 people in May, 2015.
For this camp, Spark Minda Foundation partnership with more than 12 Organization such as Ambuja Cement Foundation, Assocham, Sister of Destitute, Wockhardt Foundation, Sehgal Foundation, Enactus- Group of Delhi University Students, etc. for seeking mobilization support.
PWDs from Ghaziabad, Bisraksh, Dadri, Dhankor, Jewar, Mewat, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Bulandsahar, Agra, Meerut, Mathura, etc. were benefitted during the Camp. This camp was organized in a closed coordination with the District Administration of Gautam Buddha Nagar to ensure the outreach to rural blocks. This Program is unique example of Public Private Partnership.
Spark Minda, Ashok Minda Group in collaboration with Bhagwan Mahavir Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS) popularly known as Jaipur Foot, has organized a camp for the fitment of Artificial Limbs for the Amputees at Jakarta. The camp was formally inaugurated on 11th May, 2015 at PT Minda Automotive Indonesia.
His Excellency Mr. Gurjit Singh, Ambassador of India to Indonesia and Timur-Leste was the Chief Guest of the Inaugural Ceremony. The event was also graced by the presence of our GCEO, Mr. Ashok Minda, Mrs. Sarika Minda and Mr. Sudhir Kashyap.
This project named “Saksham” (‘Mandiri’- in Bahasa Indonesia) is aimed to ensure sustainability of life for the persons with disability through ensuring their mobility. After Artificial Limb Fitment, the amputees will be able to walk normally for the rest of their lives.
The camp was envisioned by Mr. Ashok Minda and Mrs. Sarika Minda along with Jaipur Foot in the year 2014. This project aims to benefit approximately 500 people from Indonesia under the Corporate Social Responsibility of the Group.
A team of 11 members are executing Artificial Limbs fitment to approximately 500 people at PTMAI Campus from 4th May, to 7th June, 2015. Since the initiation of the project, a total of 455 patients have been fitted with artificial limbs (status as on 1st June, 2015).
People with mobility disability particularly belonging to low income group from Jakarta and surrounding places will be treated during the camp. Identification and mobilization of patients are being done by Yayasan Peduli Tuna Daksa, NGO (Indonesia), which will also be responsible for post camp facilitation and corrective measures.
Jaipur Foot has developed the technology for manufacturing and fitment of Artificial Limbs to the limbless. The limbs may be fitted above or below the knee. These limbs are manufactured by natural rubber over the structure of Plaster of Paris based on the customized measurement of each person. The longevity of these limbs is approximately 3-5 years. Amputees will comfortably be able to walk, work, ride and drive after this fitment.
During the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Ashok Minda, expressed that such initiatives of benefitting the persons with disability signifies humanity and it should be boundryless and also spoke about the corporate citizenship theory relating to triple bottom line of People, Planet and Profit. Mrs. Sarika Minda, Chairperson – Group CSR briefed about rest of the Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives taken up by the group in the thematic areas of education, healthcare, community infrastructure livelihood promotion and environment protection.

This camp is a unique example of undertaking a major CSR activity in foreign land for the benefit of public in general. This will benefit the people with disability to make their lives self-sustainable with dignity.
The camp was organized by Group CSR and Group Communication Department along with PT Minda Automotive Indonesia team under the able guidance of Mr. M K Pajan, Mrs. Sarika Minda, Mr. Sandeep Aggarwal and Mr. N K Taneja from conceptualization to the final execution of the project.
